High five

GLENDALOUGH IS ONE of the nation's top five favourite heritage sites according to a national survey. A national heritage survey commissioned to mark Heritage Week puts Glendalough as one of the country's best loved heritage sites. Seven per cent of people surveyed said Glendalough was their favourite heritage site in Ireland putting it in fourth position behind The Burren (12 per cent), Newgrange (11 per cent) and the Cliffs of Moher (8 per cent).

15-strong team off to Chernobyl

A group of Arklow-based volunteers will make the long journey to Belarus in the coming weeks to carry out building and renovation work to aid the help improve the lives of those affected by the Chernobyl disaster.

Micko needs more time to make mind up

THE SAGA over whether Mick O'Dwyer stays on as manager of Wicklow's county team or moves to another county continues. At a meeting of the County Committee on Monday night, Wicklow acceded to a request from the Kerry maestro that he be given another ten days in which to make a decision about his future. It had been expected in the press as well as throughout the county that Micko would be reappointed as manager of Wicklow's county team for a fifth consecutive year at Monday's meeting in Aughrim.
