GRANITE VILLAGE GOLF Our next outing to Mount Wolseley on Sunday September 12th is proving very popular so we would ask all those still wishing to play to get their names and fee to James O'Toole as soon as possible.

Another reminder that our last outing of the season is of course, Captain's Day at Woodenbridge. Please put Friday October 8th in your diary now as this is always a special day out. SET DANCING

Well done to the Aughrim/ Annacurra U13's who qualified for the final of the Ray Daniels Cup on Thursday night last. Having beaten Lacken/Kilbride, Stratford and Coolkenno and loosing to Tinahely in recent weeks, they got the luck of the draw and will now play either Tinahely or Stratford in the final. Date and venue yet to be decided. Best of Luck in the final lads.

Aughrim U-12 footballers have also been busy in recent weeks hosting a hurling blitz and playing in the Carnew football blitz, with most of these lads also on the U-13 panel it has been a very busy August for them.

Our U10's and U8's continue playing their football and hurling blitzes on alternate weeks. We have hosted our own blitzes, attended at Glenealy, Avondale and Knockananna in recent weeks and at Kilcoole last Friday night where both teams accounted very well for themselves.

Now turning in to September we have just 4 more blitzes remaining, culminating in us hosting the last hurling blitz of the year on 25th September. We would like to thank all children and parents who continue to turn up for training and matches every week.

Our U-8's ran a mini hurling tournament in the Aughrim festival recently. The Arklow Rocks, Michael Dwyers, Castletown from Wexford and our own U-8's took part and after some thrilling games The Arklow Rocks came out on top in the final, congratulations to them.

Our U-10's went on a trip to Cushendall, Antrim also in recent weeks to get a taste of Antrim hurling, and they were very surprised at the skill levels and commitment of the northern teams, they obviously live and breath hurling in this little pocket of the north. We had a great night's entertainment and some even got to see the Giants Causeway on the journey. Thanks to Rory Connolly for organising the event. The panel who travelled included: Darren Keegan, Eanna & Daragh Owens, Dean Carter, Ian & Mark Clancy, Stephen & Katie O' Byrne, Aine O' Shea, Conor Connolly and Tom Murphy. OLD MOBILE PHONES

Aughrim Community Sports and Leisure Association Ltd. are collecting old mobile phones in an effort to raise much needed funds to buy raw materials required by our twenty plus voluntary tradesmen, who are endeavoring to complete the upstairs section of the centre.

For every old mobile phone donated €4 will go directly towards our cause. Collection points are located within the centre itself, Byrne's Londis, Rednagh Stores and Aughrim National School. Your support is greatly appreciated. ACTIVE RETIREMENT

The group becomes Active again with the Monday morning coffee drop-in on September 6th at 10.30am, followed by the September GM on Tuesday September 7th in the Pavilion at 3pm. Discussions on future outings and events will take place so a strong attendance is encouraged. A Committee meeting will take place after coffee on Monday September 6th.

The Group's newsletter 'Aughrim Times' was issued on Saturday 21st August, was very well received by all and sold out in a matter of a few days, indicating that it was a very successful and worthwhile project. Apologies to those who missed out on getting a copy.

A second issue is due to be published before Christmas, and we would ask any body who has a contribution to make to get in touch with the Committee (Margaret on 36660 or Declan on 36896) or any member. There is a deadline of 1st October for contributions. A big thank you is due to all who contributed to its successful publication, and we look forward to an even more successful second issue. SCHOOL REUNION

A Colaiste Bhride school reunion will be held in Kenny's of Shillelagh on September 11th at 9pm, open to all classmates inclusive of 1988-1993.

There is no cover charge or tickets as it is an informal get together. Hope everyone can make it! LOTTO

The numbers 15, 16, 25 and 26 were drawn in last week's sports club lotto. There were no match three winners. The jackpot was not won. AUGHRIM PLAYGROUND

This is just a quick update on what has been going on behind the scenes over the summer period in relation to the playground. Planning permission is currently being sought from Wicklow County Council for the construction of the playground at the fishing park.

In addition, an application has been made to Wicklow County Partnership Ltd. for funding . All going well decisions will be made on both counts before the end of September. We intend to hold one final fundraiser to cover the costs of architect and planning fees as a result of the planning application in the coming months.

Aughrim Tidy Towns and the Playground Committee would like to thank everyone for all their support to date and look forward to reaping the rewards of our hard work in the near future TAEKWON DO
