CROSS COUNTRY It was great success all around for DCW last week. Second and third years won their year event, first years came third in their category. Tara Jameson from sixth year came first in the senior race with Claire Earls and Anne Hantan claiming second and third place. Other successful candidates were Becky Mahoney and Laura Daly who came in third and fourth in the second year race. Ali Geraghty and Linda Earls achieved second and fourth in the third year race. WICKLOW UPLANDS AWARD Four fortunate TY students Kate Byrne, Jenny Doyle, Hannah Woolahan and Orla Fenton headed to Baltinglass last week to compete in an Uplands Awards Competition which is part of the Leave No Trace Project. The girls will spend three days looking at ways to protect the natural beauty of an area while at the same time enhancing its touristic prospects. INTERNATIONAL CLUB There is a distinct International atmosphere in DCW at present. Each Wednesday at lunchtime our International Community and interested Irish students have an opportunity to meet for some cross cultural exchange. Language skills can be improved and friendships fastened. WORLD SPANISH DAY Did you know that October 12 is World Spanish Day? Well it hasn't passed the attention of Mr. Ed Mc Cann Head of our Spanish Dept. Spanish food, Flamingo dancing, film and a quiz will all be part of our Spanish day at the College. LISBON TREATY Fatima Hall was a hive of activity on Friday last with 2nd Year Gold holding a Mock Lisbon Treaty. Huge preparation went into the day. Tough campaigning was done. The students had made their own ballot boxes and voting cards. The polling station opened at 9 a.m. The aim of the project was to raise the student's political awareness and to engage them in current activities. It will be interesting to see how the school result tallies with the National outcome. LAW DAY Practicing barrister Mr. James Fahey ran four law days for the TY students this week. It was a great opportunity for the fourth years to get first hand information on how the Law works, each day ended with the students getting a practical run of acting out a mock trial in class. SCHOOL OPEN DAY The open day will take place on Saturday, October 10. Beginning at 12 noon in Fatima Hall, followed by guided tours around the school, the day will finish up at 2 p.m. COOKERY CLUB Cookery club is taking place afterschool on Tuesday from 4 - 5.30 p.m. in the school kitchen. It is a great opportunity for students to learn new culinary skills while making new friends and having fun. The club is open to students from first to fourth year free of charge (students are required to bring their own ingredients). Any queries, contact Ms O'Connor.
