THE SHOE BOX APPEAL Operation Christmas Child has once again kicked off in DCW• Should you wish to contribute, firstly secure a shoe box, decide if it is to be a boy or a girl and what age, include 3 euro or more in an envelope and fill the box with toys, educational supplies, hygiene items or something to wear. Avoid fragile items! Gift filled boxes are to be ready by November 11th. SCHOOL COUNCIL Members of the newly elected school council met last week. Nzinga Harrington was elected chair, Rachel Devlin was elected deputy chair, Aoise Killeen secretary and Katie O Neill treasurer. Ground rules for the meetings were agreed on and a basic plan was drawn up for the year ahead. Red day a school fundraiser for the hospice and a Christmas food run for the St Vincent de Paul were planned for. Recently 16 members of the school council traveled to the Grand Hotel where they took part in a local Youth Forum, discussing issues of concern to the youth in the local area Representatives from local schools De La Salle, Avondale and the Abbey were also present.. Nzinga Harrington, Aoise Killeen, Rachel Mc Dermott and Laura Mc Enery were voted on to the local forum. ART TOUR Accompanied by their Art teacher Ms Horan and Ms Gale the 5th and 6th year Art students traveled to Knowth and Newgrange this week. As part of their leaving cert studies they traveled into the passage graves older than the Pyramids of Egypt and they witnessed first hand the magnificent examples of megalithic art. Everybody enjoyed the trip. TRANSITION YEARS 63 Transition years traveled to the Mermaid Theatre in Bray last Wednesday. The one man show called Psycho Spaghetti which demonstrated artistically the mind oof young people was a revelation to one and all. TYs also had a make up day this week. Presented by Lorraine O Connor the aim of the day was to show how a little goes a long way. The girls learned about skincare and make up and they were given advice on what suits their skin best. 2nd YEAR RETREAT These days are cherished by students as an opportunity for respite and reflection during a hectic term. On Friday last 80 2nd years had their day of retreat on campus. INTERNATIONAL SPANISH DAY The sun was high in the sky on Monday last for International Spanish Day one would have been forgiven for thinking they were in Spain! Mr. Mc Cann and some transition years decorated the school with Spanish flags and charts of interest. They prepared a traditional Spanish breakfast of churros and nachos, fundraising were done for the El Arco Charity in Argentina a fund for abandoned street kids in Buenos Aires. In the evening a Spanish film was enjoyed.
