GAA NOTES

Wednesday March 10 2010

A number of teams were in action last week. On Tuesday, the Junior A team got some match fitness under their belts with a pre-season friendly against Newcastle. This was a good chance for the management team to have a look at their selection of players for the year to come. The match ended 1-10 to 1-8 in favour of Kilmac with Simon Doyle netting for Kilmac.

With the lads still training hard and players yet to come back from injuries, holidays etc. the match marked a very positive start to the season. The Junior A team will play another friendly match on Tuesday against Ashford (match report will follow next week).

On Friday last, Kilmac invited Bray Emmets to Fitzsimons Park for the second round of the minor league. Unfortunately, the lads were beaten on a scoreline of 1-5 to 3-11. After a closely contested first half, Bray pushed ahead and made good use of their dominant possession. Please check fixtures in sport section as no date for the next match has been set.

The pitch was very busy last Friday, as the U-8's, 10's and 12's began their fun training sessions. A big thank you to Susan and Mary for providing tea and sandwiches for all present.

Another player who was in action last weekend, but not in a green jersey, was Niall Meldon. Niall was on County duty with the minor developement squad in Kilkenny on Saturday. Wicklow recorded a 1-12 to 6pts victory with Niall playing in mid-field for most of the match.
