JUBILEE LOOP WALK
Wednesday March 10 2010
Another major event in the Church Jubilee celebration will take place next Sunday March 14.
The Loop Walk will be launched in the Church Grounds at 3 p.m. This 5K route should be a very attractive amenity in the area and it is fitting that the walk takes in some of the local Mass Paths which were used by previous generations to come to Mass and religious events in the Church when it was built and for many years after.
It is also appropriate that the Jubilee Walk will include the Famine Graveyard where 8,000 victims of the Famine were laid to rest just before the parish Church was erected in 1860. This will give an opportunity to remember those poor people who must have experienced great difficulties and perhaps we can pause and say a prayer for them as we pass by.
The Jubilee committee are most grateful to the Doyle family for their cooperation in allowing the Walk through their land on the way to the Forest Trail. This Trail will bring participants down to the banks of the splendid Avonmore River and on to the Ivy Leaf Rugby Grounds.
The Walk will return via the Mass Path that will bring them by St. Bridget's Well and up to the parish Church. Approximate walking time is two hours and would be suitable for most people including children over 10. Participants should wear walking boots and rain gear.
The Jubilee committee would like to express their appreciation to Wicklow County Leader for helping to make the Famine Graveyard accessible and to Rathdrum Tidy Towns for their assistance. Also to the Doyle family and to Coillte who have been most co-operative and helpful.
Thanks also to Rathdrum Rugby club and Fishing club for their assistance and all who helped in preparing the route.
