GAA NOTES
Pride of place this week must go to our U12's who lifted the County 'A' championship with a terrific win over St. Nicholas in Arklow on Sunday morning.
From the throw in, every player on the pitch played their hearts out and played for each other in a tremendous display of team work and concentration on the task at hand. No one could deny that Newtown were by far the best team all over the field and were worthy winners.
An exceptional performance saw Michael Doyle win 'Man of the Match', but there were many close contenders for that title. The final score was 1-10 to 0-05.
An amazing game by full back Darren Walsh kept St. Nicholas from scoring on many an occasion. Well done to these young stars of the future. Scores came from Ryan Taylor 1-01, Michael Doyle 0-07, Sean Dease and Ross Davis 0-01 each.
The Junior team were unlucky not to reach the county final in their match against Knockananna in Arklow on Saturday. Leading by 8 points at one stage, Newtown were eventually overhauled and lost by 4 points in the end. Final score was 3-07 to 3-11.
The monthly committee meeting will take place in the club house on Tuesday October 13 at 8 p.m. The Lotto jackpot is now at €11,800.
Condolences to the Doyle family on the recent passing of Pat 'Dollar' Doyle.
