NEWTOWN JUNIORS FC MINI-WORLD CUP: Our Mini-World cup took place last weekend and in the main the games took place in glorious sunshine. To match the weather we had some excellent football played at all age groups. In the 13's/14's section the Plate final was won by France who beat Germany on a 3-1 scoreline thanks to an Adam Hayden hat-trick. Italy won the cup final after a narrow 2-1 victory over Uruguay.

For the Italians Keith Dalton, Nathan Hamilton and Robert Greenan take the plaudits while Becky Cassin, Dylan Ford & Darren Walsh shone for the runners-up. The Player of the Tournament award went to Becky Cassin & Adam Hayden. The 11's/12's Plate final was won by Cameroon on a 21 scoreline over Ghana. Best for the winners were Aaron Toner, Kelsea Parsons & Conor Doyle and for the runners up Chelsee Snell and Sean Gregory shone.

In the cup final South Africa swept Ivory Coast aside on a scoreline of 6-0. Ireland beat Spain 4-3 in the cup final of the 9's/10's section in a thrilling game of attacking football. In the Plate final Portugal beat England 2-1 in another exciting game.

The match of the day proved to be the under 8's final between Argentina & Brazil and this was a game that had everything. The game ended two-all after brilliant goals from Josh Odlum-Kavanagh and Jamie Dodd for the Brazilians and equally excellent goals from Josh Kennedy & Luke Dease for Argentina. Even after 5 minutes of "Golden Goal" extra time the teams couldn't be separated and so it was left to a penalty shoot out to decide the winners. Brazil proved more accurate from the spot-kicks and won by 4 peno's to one.

The Player of the Tournament award went to Ben Moran and Josh OdlumKavanagh. Also we must mention Ciara Dease who played in goal during the 8's competition. Many thanks to all the committee members and managers who helped out over the weekend and to all the young managers who experienced been on the other side of the line for the first time and all did an excellent job.
