WEDDING ANNIVERSARY Congratulations to John and Margaret Porter, Lower Street, Rathdrum who celebrated their Golden Wedding anniversary with their family and friends at a function in Jacob's Well last Saturday night. John and Margaret raised a family of seven children in very hard times but sadly their only son John (Junior) passed away some years ago.
John worked most of his life on the Forestry from which he retired some years ago. He still drives his tractor and enjoys a flutter on the horses now and again. May we extend best wishes to them both on this very special occasion. PHOTO COMPETITION
Entries for the Photo competition for the 50th Anniversary Calendar for Rathdrum Development Association must be in by Friday 10th September. Photographs must be of Rathdrum or surrounding area. Maximum of three photographs per person. Entry forms can be obtained from Tourist Office, Market Square, Rathdrum. CHARITY CABARET
A Cabaret took place recently in Lil Doyle's in aid of St. Colman's Patients Benefit Fund. Don McCabe with his group "Annie's Choice" provided music with a host of guests.
Dominic Ryan, committee member of St. Colman's Benefit Fund thanked the proprietors and all the artistes who took part and said he was pleasantly surprised with the array of talent that performed on the night. He also said it was events like this that helped to obtain extra comforts for the patients of the Hospital. THURSDAY WALK
The route for this Thursday evening Walk will be Croneybyrne via Stump and down by the Avonmore River. Walk will start from back gates of Croneybyrne and will take one and a half hours approximately. BINGO
A lucky lady was the winner of €1,000 at last weeks Special Game bingo in the R.D.A. Hall. This week the Lucky Line plus Jackpot and usual €2,000 cash prizes are on offer. First call at 8.30 p.m. YOGA
Yoga classes will begin on Monday 6th September in the R.D.A. Hall from 10.00 a.m. to 11.30 a.m. Please bring sleeping bag or blanket and wear loose clothes and socks. Course will take place for 14 weeks and cost is €40 for 4 classes. Beginners are welcome.
