YOUNG ACHIEVERS WIN GAISCE AWARD MEDALS

The five Avondale Community College students who secured silver Gaisce Award medals.
FIVE LEAVING CERTIFICATE students from Avondale Community College collected silver medals as part of the Gaisce President's Award Ceremony having completed four separate challenges over a 52-week period.
Simon Cullen, Lorraine Doyle, Yasmin Kearns, Emma Kennedy and Ciarán Phelan were the only students from County Wicklow out of 189 from Leinster who collected their medals on the night held in The Edmund Burke Theatre in Trinity College, Dublin.
The students received a silver medal and a miniature replica brooch, as well as a certificate signed by our newly appointed President, Michael D. Higgins, for their outstanding achievement on completing the Silver Gaisce programme.
The dedicated bunch from Avondale Community College were already holders of the Bronze Gaisce Award. In order to achieve silver recognition the students participated in a number of challenges. Their energy levels never waned as they took part in a three day challenge and completed a 52 kilometre hike in the Wicklow Mountains.
Compliments were passed on to the students and their teacher, Rosemarie Griffith, whose next challenge will be to see if the Gold Award can be achieved.
