THE CAMINO WAY
A group of students and teachers, led by Ms Angela Flynn, are planning to complete a section of the famous pilgrim route, The Camino Way, in Spain next July. The Camino de Santiago de Compostela, also known as The Way of St. James, is a collection of old pilgrimage routes which cover Europe. They all have Santiago de Compostela in North West Spain as their final destination.
For more than 1000 years pilgrims have been walking along the Camino way. The route will involve walking approximately 20 - 25 km per day for 5 days, staying each night in a hostel. Those participating in this challenge will commit to fundraising €250 each to donate to charity (charity to be decided). Over the coming months students will be calling on the generosity of the community as they prepare for this challenge. Please support their efforts.
MOCK EXAMS
Best wishes to our Leaving Cert. and Junior Cert. students as they take their oral and written mock exams over the coming weeks. The Leaving Cert. mock oral exams began last week and the written exams will run until Friday 10th February. This is a tense and difficult time for students so we must be mindful of their needs and offer them our support in whatever way we can.
TRANSITION YEAR SONG SCHOOL
On Monday 24th January, Fourth Year students thoroughly enjoyed the Song School workshop presented by the very popular team known as the "4 Daves". Throughout the day the girls played challenging group work games as well as rhythm games. At the end of the very stimulating song writing workshop the participants could call themselves songwriters. The creativity of the students was very evident when each group performed a newly composed song in a mini-concert at the end of the day. The girls enjoyed the music-filled day and continue to sing the songs they created!
YSI CUBZ
The YSI Cubz visited Sharpshill Animal Sanctuary on Wednesday 25th January. Ms Mary O'donnell and Ashleigh Weadick organised the trip. The girls enjoyed a slideshow presentation and talk given by Linda and afterwards had an opportunity to meet some of the dogs in the sanctuary. This activity is relevant to the YSI topic "Animal Welfare". The students decided to follow up on their visit by organising fundraising for the sanctuary over the next few months.
