Wheelchairs' half century
THERE WERE PLENTY of celebrations in Arklow ROC last week as the Irish Wheelchair Association celebrated its 50th birthday.
Michelle Byrne of Arklow ROC said the celebrations had been a huge success.
'We had an absolutely fantastic day. It was super. A lot of our members came in for an extra day so we had a great crowd here on the day.
'A number of local councillors were present and we also presented a cake to Cllr. Miriam Murphy who turns 50 later this year. We felt it was appropriate to present Miriam with the cake as she has worked so hard over the years highlighting disability and access issues.'
There was plenty of music and dancing in Arklow ROC on the day as the party continued into the afternoon.
A number of speeches were made which were well received.
The Irish Wheelchair Association is currently trying to secure funding with a view to building a new state-of-the-art flagship building in the town to replace the current centre.
