Wednesday March 03 2010
A RATHDRUM MAN who assaulted his neighbour was fined € 250 at Wicklow District Court.
Melvin Assinuddin ( 44), 3 Union Lane, Rathdrum, was charged with assault at 5 Union Lane on August 2, 2009.
Garda Richard Galvin said that Darcy Santos passed by Assinuddin's house to go to the next house, and that when he was in the entrance of this other house, he noticed Assinuddin had followed him. Words ere exchanged, and a fight ensued. Mr. Santos was struck in the eye by Assinuddin resulting in a black eye.
Garda Galvin said all three families were Philippino and were living beside each other. Assinuddin's wife and Mr. Santos' wife had been best friends but fell out which led to bickering between the two couples.
This resulted in the assault, he said. Acting for Assinuddin he said Assinuddin was a florist in Shankill and was in Ireland for a number of years. He said there had been some gossip which developed into this. He said that while the parties were not the best of friends, they had agreed to stay away from each other.
Judge Murrough Connellan fined him €250 and bound him to the peace for one year in his own bond of € 250.
