Awear jobs safe after second sale
ALL FULL AND part-time Awear stores jobs in Wicklow will be retained by new owners after the company was placed in receivership and sold for the second time in five months.
The chain has 32 stores in Ireland, employing 460 full time and part time staff, including 8 employees who work in the Arklow store.
Awear will trade as normal following its acquisition by a group of international investors, headed by British businessman Michael Flacks of Flacks Group.
Jim Luby of Mcstay Luby had been appointed as receiver to Awear by previous owners Hilco, and agreement was reached this week with the international group of investors to sell the business. The terms and conditions of employees will remain the same.
Mr. Flacks, President and CEO of Flacks Group, says, 'this acquisition is a very positive development for Awear, its employees and customers. I have been highly impressed by the strength of the Awear brand, its excellent standing as a leading fashion retailer in this market and its potential for future growth.
'We see excellent potential to work with homegrown Irish designers, to develop the online side of the business and to grow the Awear brand internationally. We look forward to working with the management team and staff at Awear and its suppliers - we look forward to the potential that lies ahead.'
