WICKLOW DISTRICT COURT adjourned a case last week against a Rathnew man accused of the dangerous riding of a pedal bike, and disqualified him for driving for two years for a separate drunken driving offence.

Cathal Doyle of Ballinderry Lower is due in court again on May 15 on foot of four charges against him involving his bicycle.

However, Doyle was disqualified for drunken driving on the Dublin Road at Kilbride Arklow on August 12, 2006.

And the court also imposed a €175 fine on hearing that the drug benzene was found in Doyle's blood specimen.

The four other charges against Doyle include dangerous riding on his pedal cycle, no front lamp, no rear lamp and no reflector.

Garda Shane Barker told the court he attended the scene of an accident at Fairgreen, Rathdrum on February 27 2006 involving a vehicle and a cyclist.

He said on inspecting the bicycle he found it with no brackets, no brakes, no reflectors and no front and rear light and could find no debris on the road to suggest the bicycle had any safety features. However, Doyle told the court a person' had dropped the bicycle to his house and explained that his bicycle has lights, reflectors, brackets and brakes.

The court heard Doyle sustained serious head injuries following the accident and was taken to hospital with a bleed on his brain and could not remember anything before the accident.
