Filmmakers compete to land 'drug driving' prize
YOUNG FILMMAKERS from Wicklow will get a chance to shine by creating a short film reflecting the devastating effects of drug driving.
The Keep Drama Off the Roads competition organised by Setanta Insurance provides up and coming filmmakers with a chance to win €3,000. There will also be a public screening of the winning entry. The deadline has been extended to February 14 to give entrants more time to complete their short film.
The Keep Drama Off the Roads campaign was launched in November and the demand has been so great, Setanta Insurance has caved into demands from frantic film directors requesting an extension.
The competition is open to people aged 16 to 25. A study on drug driving by the Medical Bureau of Road Safety showed that seven out of 10 erratic drivers are under the influence of some kind of drug and that the vast majority of drug drivers – more than 90 per cent were male. An expert panel of judges made up of Setanta Insurance representatives, TV presenter Baz Ashmawy and special guests will shortlist the films which most highlight the hazards of drug driving.
Those wishing to enter the competition should visit www.keepdramaofftheroads.ie for a full list of entry requirements and advice about making their short film.
