A FREE downloadable app for Iphones is helping tourists and residents of Wicklow alike to explore and discover every nook and cranny of the Garden County

The brainchild of Michael Scullion and Roz Kelly, the Explore Wicklow app is re- useable, redeemable, easy to use and trackable with GPS mapping which can bring customers right to the door of your business.

'Downloading the Explore Wicklow app for free is like having Wicklow in your pocket. The app is GPS based so it will walk you to hostels, shops and businesses and tell you of any offers near where you actually are,' explains Michael.

Michael and Roz are also responsible for the popular website www.wicklowway.com

What's more, the app is easily downloaded for free. Just run your Smartphone over the appropriate QR code once your phone has a scanner app such as scanlife to scan images. A QR code is included in this article and can also be found at www.explorewicklow.ie. Alternatively, many businesses listed on the app also have the QR code up on display on the front window of their premises.

Discounts on offer include 10 per cent of all day tour tickets at Wicklow Gaol, meal and drink discounts at a host of different eateries and cafes, discounts on the use of gym and swimming pool facilities and reductions in overnight hotel and B&B stays, to name but just a few of the offers open to users of the app.

Already Michael and Roz have been asked to discuss their app at Failte Ireland conferences and help introduce businesses to new technology methods.

The Explore Wicklow App has already received some glowing reviews, with US Ambassador to Ireland, Daniel Rooney particularly impressed by its capabilities during a visit to Wicklow last year.

He was moved to say, 'Ireland has $190 billion in U.S. investment and long established cultural links. Tourism has been flagged as a major growth industry for Ireland's economy. This is exactly the sort initiative that we have people sitting at desks to support and encourage.'

Tom Fortune, Chairman of Wicklow Tourism, has also given the app his seal of approval.

' The App is fantastic and it is great to have this additional opportunity to promote Wicklow, and show off all that The Garden County has to offer.'
