Hook attends Daffodil Day launch

BROADCASTER GEORGE HOOK joined volunteers from Bray and Greystones last week at the launch of Daffodil Day which takes place on Friday March 26.

The Irish Cancer Society is hoping to raise over €4 million to fund its free specialist nursing and information services for people with cancer. The society is calling on the people of Wicklow to come out and collect on the day at a location convenient to them.

'Everyone has been touched by cancer either directly or indirectly,' said John McCormack, CEO of the Irish Cancer Society. 'Latest data shows that 765 people were diagnosed with cancer in Wicklow in 2008.'

They have set a targed of €4 million this year and all money raised will fund free and direct patient care services including the National Cancer Helpline Freefone 1800 200 700, the funding of hospital based oncology liaison nurses, counseling and financial aid and night nursing.
