The cast of the John B Keane play 'Sive', which will be performed by the Kilmant Players in the Wicklow Gaol.
THE KILMANT Players will take to the stage tonight (Wednesday) with their dramatisation of John B. Keane's 'Sive' in Wicklow Gaol.
The show will run until Saturday night and patrons will have the opportunity to enjoy at banquet-style meal at the Gaol before the play.
The play is set in the difficult times of 1950s rural Ireland and caused considerable controversy on its debut in 1959. Sive is the story of greed and bitterness, of a scheming matchmaker and a resentful woman forcing a young girl to marry an old man.
The play is powerful and provocative, yet filled with Irish humour that attempts to raise the characters up out of the harsh poverty of their rural lives.

Tickets for €10 are also available to those wishing to see the show only which will commence at 8pm sharp. Tickets can be bought from Malone's Bookshop or on the door.
