Schools in running for Dragon awards

Wednesday February 15 2012

STUDENTS from two Garden County schools are in with a shout of landing a €7,000 prize fund for product mentoring and development as part of the national heat of Agri Aware's Green Dragon Secondary Schools Innovation Challenge.

Over 300 students will attend the national heat taking place in Athlone on Wednesday, February 22, including representatives from St. Gerard's of Bray and Avondale Community College in Rathdrum.

The Wicklow natives will present their innovative ideas for new products or services for the Agriculture, Food, Environmental and Health and Safety sectors, to the Green Dragon panel.

Students will be hoping to impress the judging panel and secure a place at the National Final which will take place in Dublin on March 28.

Now in its third year, the Agri Aware initiative, supported by Bord Bia, AIB Bank and FBD, provides students with an opportunity to bring their innovative ideas from concept stage; through to the development of business and marketing plans; right up to pitching their idea in front of a professional panel of judges.

For one truly innovative idea, the top prize of an €7,000 product mentoring and development prize fund will be available to support the students in bringing their product or service to the market.
