Triple flag success for leisure clubs

THREE COUNTY WICKLOW leisure centres received the 2010 White Flag Award last week.

Coral Leisure in Arklow and Wicklow and the Ritz Carlton Powerscourt all received the prestigious award from the Industry Body for Sports, Fitness, Aquatic Facilities, Spas and Wellness.

Nationwide 87 spa and leisure facilities received the award during a gala dinner hosted by RTE's Michael Lyster in the Burlington Hotel, Dublin on Friday October 23.

Coral Leisure in Arklow and Wicklow received the award for the second year running while it was the first time that the Ritz Carlton, Powerscourt received the award.

Kilian Fisher, CEO of ILAM said ' there are over 650 leisure facilities in Ireland and the White Flag Award is an essential mark of quality that any gym, swimming pool, Spa or leisure facility must strive to achieve. 'It is a clear sign that the leisure facility has high standards and employs staff who operate to the industry code of practice'.

The Disability Provision Award were also presented at the White Flag Award with DLR Leisure Services, Monkstown; Leisureland, Galway and National Aquatic Centre, Dublin being awarded a gold standard while K Leisure, Athy; K Leisure, Naas and Newpark Sports Centre, Blackrock were awarded silver. ESB SPORTSCO, Dublin; Grove Island Leisure Centre and Portlaoise Leisure Centre received a bronze award. Rachel Dempsey and Nicola Walker from Coral Leisure Centre.
