Wicklow rugby fan's forthright letter does the rounds on e-mail
Most thoughts prior to the weekend were firmly fixed on Ireland's historic clash with France at Croke Park in front of 82,000 ecstatic Irish fans. While that game ended in heartbreak, Frank Schnittger was already focusing on the English encounter a couple of weeks down the road.
While some people within GAA circles mightn't necessarily see the visit of the English rugby team as Croker's greatest hour, at least one rugby fan has also proved he has a long memory.
Mr. Schnittger's letter, published a national paper across the pond on Friday, starts off in relatively sedate fashion, but he saves the real hard-hitting blow for the final sentence.
The letter begins by commenting on England's performance against Scotland during the opening exchanges of the Six Nations.
'Scotland weren't much better than a Guinness Premiership or Magners League team, but you can only beat what is put in front of you, and Saturday represents a very good start. Ireland may well be missing Brian O'Driscoll as well as Shane Horgan and don't have the resources in depth to overcome such losses. However neither will England have the armoured cars and machine guns they had the last time they entered Croke Park,' he wrote.
Mr. Schnittger's letter had no sooner reached the news stands on Friday morning, before it was already flying around various offices and work places nationwide, as his comments became the hottest e-mail item of the weekend.
