Micko needs more time to make mind up
THE SAGA over whether Mick O'Dwyer stays on as manager of Wicklow's county team or moves to another county continues. At a meeting of the County Committee on Monday night, Wicklow acceded to a request from the Kerry maestro that he be given another ten days in which to make a decision about his future. It had been expected in the press as well as throughout the county that Micko would be reappointed as manager of Wicklow's county team for a fifth consecutive year at Monday's meeting in Aughrim.
Hurling quarter-finals to take centre stage
THE SFC takes a rest this weekend and in its we have a mixed back of tricks - featuring quarter-finals in the SHC and a lot of action in Intermediate and all Junior grades of football. The Baltinglass v. Bray Emmets replay in the SFC goes back to the 11th/12th weekend. COOGAN HARDWARE SHC AVONDALE V. KILTEGAN Little has separated the two sides in recent years so this is a game that is hard to call. John Mitchell has got Avondale motoring in recent times and while they may not be the finished article yet the feeling in the camp is that they are good enough to make the semifinal at least
Resurgent Bray see off Students
BRAY WANDERERS survived a late scare on Friday night to book their place in the last eight of the FAI Cup for the second year in a row. The Seagulls terrible twosome of Shane O'Neill and Jake Kelly had earlier fired the visitors into a three-goal lead, but the Wicklow club looked set to hit the self-destruct button in the final seven minutes of the match, allowing UCD striker Ciarán Kilduff to net twice in three minutes to set up a grandstand finish.
Kids have a ball at Cúl camps
HOLLYWOOD GAA Club was the venue for the last of the VHI GAA Cúl camps held in Wicklow this year. In all 26 such summer camps were held throughout the county in 2010 catering for in excess of 2,000 boys and girls from primary schools. Hollywood was one of four Cúl camps held the week before last. They were joined by Glenealy in staging hurling camps, while two football camps were held at Enniskerry and Newtown.
KEOGH'S CORNER
WHAT'S ANOTHER YEAR? Noone has told me but I am prepared to bet that Tony Hannon was among many Wicklow people in Croke park on Sunday. If he was then he must have been watching with more than ordinary interest as Kildare player Richard Kelly lined up the kick that could have ended Down's interest in the All-Ireland.

Bray and Balto must meet again
BRAY EMMETS and Baltinglass dropped a spanner in Mick Hagan's well planned fixtures programme when they played the only draw in the quarter-finals of the Senior football championship at Aughrim on Sunday. This was a game played with real championship fervour and passion by teams regarded as serious contenders for a last four place and both had their chances of stealing a late victory in the closing five minutes.
Lukasz is the star
A DEBUT hat-trick from Polish striker Lukasz Niewiadomski proved the perfect tonic for Celtic Stars as they got their season off to a winning start at Rathnew AFC's expense.
Mini rugby resumes at Wicklow RFC
FOLLOWING A very successful summer camp - as reported here a fortnight ago, Wicklow RFC are resuming age-grade rugby this Saturday, September 4, at Ashtown Lane. The summer activities involved over 120 children who took advantage of the good weather to hone their skills under the watchful eye of Leinster and Ireland player, Sean O'Brien.
