Last weekend, Aughrim Intermediate footballers travelled to Castleblaney in Co. Monaghan where they played the local Faugh's club in the annual memorial tournament for the Dawn Lacey Cup. Their host in Castleblaney was Brian Laide, the former Avondale and Wicklow player, who helped coach Aughrim for a period. Despite defeat being their lot against their vaunted Senior rivals, the Granite Village men were quite pleased with their display.
Aughrim's first league match of the year will be played on Saturday next, March 13, when Ashford will travel to take on our Intermediate side in the Community Field in Division 2 of the Football League.
