Wednesday March 03 2010
THE RATHNEW GAA Club held their Annual Dinner Dance on Friday evening last. The Arklow Bay Hotel was decked out in red and green, and the Miley Cup and Junior C Championship trophy were sitting proudly on the top table.
Following the scrumptious meal, well done to Mr. Brian Brennan and his staff, the distinguished guests, County Chairman Andy O'Brien and Development Officer Victor Shaughnessy, accompanied by their wives ,both made eloquent speeches. County P.R.O. Pat Mitchell and his wife Anne were also in attendance.
First to be honoured were the victorious Junior 'C' team who were led into the ballroom by local Piper Paddy Canavan. They received their medals, and presentations were made to their mentors Pat Sheehy and Pat Hunter for all their hard work.
Next up to the podium were the triumphant Senior County Champions led in by the management team of Harry Murphy, Deckie Byrne and Trevor Doyle. They were handed their winners medals to rapturous applause and reveived a standing ovation. Their mentors also received presentations from the club.
After senior manager Harry Murphy addressed the attendance it was time to make presentations to the players of the year.
Senior player of the year: Stephen Canavan; Young player of the year: Mark Doyle; Junior A player of the year: Stuart (Bomber) Murphy and Junior C player of the year: Stephen Murphy.
The dance floor was thronged and Joe Doyle and the Contenders supplied great music as usual.
Well done to John Snell (who also made a very passionate speech on the night) and his committee for all their hard work in organising this event.
