Impressive Aughrim are leading the way

THE DIVISION 3 South game between Aughrim and Annacurra a very exciting local derby, played in Annacurra. Aughrim got off to a good start with an early goal. Annacurra fought bravely and for most of the first half it was end to end stuff. Daniel Owens and Adam Rochford played well in the middle of the field for Aughrim while Oisin Furlong, brought on to strengthen the Annacurra midfield, and Elliot Robinson got stuck in and never let them dominate.
Throughout the first half Annacurra missed a few easy chances while the Aughrim forwards were more successful in converting any ball they got into scores. Aughrim continued to tack on the points until they led by 1-5 to a single point at the break.
The tide turned somewhat after the restart when Annacurra got the upper hand but again somehow failed to convert a number of early chances. Aughrim got a second goal halfway through the half which took the sting out of the opposition's attack and relieved the pressure on the Aughrim goal. Inside ten minutes Annacurra themselves got a well deserved goal, a suitable reward for their sustained pressure when the ball was dropped in the square and Elliot Robinson finished to the net through a crowd of players.
With seven minutes to go Aughrim's midfielder Daniel Owens drove a long ball from the forty which deceived Ciaran Doyle, the Annacurra keeper, and ended up in the back of the net. This finished the game as a contest even though Stephen O'Byrne and Shane McGuckian drove over a couple of insurance points.
Also in the rescheduled match between Glenealy and Aughrim, Aughrim had a good win over Glenealy. Allianz Boys Football League Fixtures week beginning March 8.
