Coláiste Bhride beaten in Tullow

By Tullow CS 3-7 Colaiste Bhride Carnew 0-9

Wednesday December 02 2009

COLAISTE BHRIDE Carnew exited the Leinster Vocational Schools A championship last Monday when going down to Tullow Community School in Tullow.

The pitch was in good condition despite the torrential rain. Tullow had a slight edge in the first half and punished the visitors at every opportunity. Carnew looked dangerous on the break but lacked finishing power. At half time Tullow led by 3-2 to 0-4.

Colaiste Bhride took control in the second half and gradually reduced the deficit. However, they were unable to score a goal against a fine defence. With twelve minutes to go the Tullow lead was down to three points 3-3 to 0-9. At this stage Conor Levingstone's rasping shot hit the crossbar and a quick attempt from the rebound was well saved by the Tullow goalkeeper. Tullow got well on top for the remainder of the game, adding four more points.

Colaiste Bhride's scorers: Brendan McCrea 0-5, Conor Levingstone 0-2, Aoidh Doyle and Seamus Osborne 0-1 each.

Presentation Bray 3-8 Avondale CC 1-11 BOTH SIDES produced some fine football in this Leinster Schools Senior C game in Avondale.

The wind played a major part in this game. Avondale had wind advantage in the first half and made the early running. They scored some good points but Pres hit back with a Chris Lyons goal to keep in touch.

Avondale did not make sufficient use of their possession but a Paudie O'Toole goal late in the first half gave them an interval lead of 1-9 to 1-1.

Pres really set out to make wind advantage pay in the second half. They added scores at regular intervals including a Justin O'Brien goal. Another Chris Lyons goal in the 15th minute put them in front 3-6 to 1-9. Avondale added two points from frees by Conor McGraynor to narrow the gap but Presentation added two points in breakaways.

In the last minute Conor McGraynor burst through for Avondale but his strong shot was deflected off the crossbar by Pres goalkeeper Thomas Egan.
