Welterweight Nolan loses out to reigning champion

ADAM NOLAN put in a huge performance before going out to reigning champion, Willie McLoughlin in their National Senior Welterweight quarterfinal at the National Stadium on Friday night last.
Boxing out of the Bray club under trainer Pete Taylor, also father and trainer of World Ladies Champion, Katie, Nolan gave a hugely impressive performance even in defeat.
McLoughlin from Buncrana came out on top in what was an excellent contest but Nolan showed that he has a bight future in the sport.
Having started out in the St. Ibar's/St. joseph's club in Wexford under now National Coach, Willie Walsh, Nolan won three national titles.
Last year he went on to win a Gold Medal in Vancouver, Canada, in the World Police Championship. Now he is looking forward to representing the Gardai in New York on St. Patrick's Day.
Coach Pete Taylor has predicted a bright future for young Nolan who is a Garda based in Bray.
Meanwhile, the five boxing clubs in Wicklow Arklow, Ballywailtrim, Blessington Bray and West Wicklow are all very busy with the National Elite Championships, the National Novice Championships, the Leinster Juvenile Championships and the National Juveniles Championships all taking place between now and Easter.
Arklow hosted a very good sparring session on Sunday last in the boxing gymnasium and plans to continue each Sunday at 11am for any clubs interested.
A County Board meeting on Sunday decided that each club in the county would hold a sponsored Skipathon in the month of March to raise much needed funds for affiliations and insurances due in May. Sponsor cards will be issued during this week and anyone wishing to contribute can do so at any of the clubs.
