Wicklow archers on target
Wednesday March 10 2010
2010 WILL be a big year for archery in Wicklow. Six Bray based archers are currently part of the Irish squads being coached by World renowned Italian coach Vittorio Frangilli.
In January six Woodbrook Archers travelled to Nimes to compete in the biggest indoor competition in the world. Over 1300 archers took part in the Tornoi de Nimes. The Woodbrook archers featured well with Joe Gill finishing in 20th place and David Kennifick finishing 54th. This was an impressive showing with all the Worlds top archers competing for cash at the competition.
In February two Woodbrook archers travelled to Las Vegas to compete in the World Archery festival. Bray based archer Harry Lyster competed well finishing 15th but in the process breaking his own Irish Record by 8 points.
The National Indoor Championships was held on March 7 in Galway. Nine Woodbrook archers took part in the knockout event. New Woodbrook member Joe Gill took gold in the Gents recurve event while Bray archer Tatjana Pinka took bronze in the ladies event. With the indoor season coming to an end and the outdoor and field season around the corner the archers of Woodbrook look forward to an interesting year and look back at their most successful indoor season to date.
