Wicklow Under-15s entertained Greystones in a friendly match on Sunday morning in perfect conditions for playing rugby.

This was a dress rehearsal for their Leinster league semi-final against Athy next weekend and was an ideal opportunity to give the entire squad a good run and try new combinations.

Wicklow were first on the scoreboard with KK Beattie crossing for a try after seven minutes. Shane Farrar added the conversion.

Greystones replied soon after with a try which was converted. There was very little between the two sides, but Wicklow went ahead again with a try from wing, Luke Daunt Smyth, which was again converted by Shane Farrar followed by a further try by Kurt Greene.

The Wicklow side handled the big Greystones side well and more than matched them in the set-piece and at the breakdown.

New boy Jordan Pettecrew had a fine game in defence and attack at full-back including one try saving tackle. Daniel Higgins playing in the front row also caught the eye along with blindside flanker Seán Buckley.

The match was sealed in the secondhalf when David Hastie scored from a fine individual break. Shane Farrar added the conversion and a penalty.

Greystones finished the scoring with a well deserved try to make the final score 29 points to 12 to Wicklow.

Wicklow squad: Jordan Pettecrew, Kurt Greene, Matthew Cullen, Emmet Stephens, Luke Daunt-Smyth, Shane Farrar, David Henderson, Ian Hanlon, Jack McKenna, Adam Bayley, Andy O'Boyle, James Manley, David Hastie, Michael Neiland (Captain), Seán Buckley, Fionn Healy, Kevin Cullinan, Matthew Buckley, Jordan Giannikis, Seán Duffy, Daniel Higgins, Emmet Cullen, Stuart O'Callaghan, Owen Connolly, KK Beattie.
