ARKLOW TOWN'S focus this week turned to the Charlie Cahill Cup and a tough third round tie versus Bangor Celtic.
Bangor currently sit on top of the Senior Division and are unbeaten all season. The Wicklow side also have a sizeable lead in their race for promotion in the league below. This was a great test for the Arklow men who will want to play against this standard of opposition every week.
The Town started brightly and skipper Stephen Hurley was the first to test Celtic's keeper with a low drive from outside the box.
Gavin Doyle then had a goal disallowed for offside which was hotly contested by the home side's bench.
The deadlock was broken just before half-time when Bangor's winger curled the ball into the top corner from 15 yards out. The away side doubled their lead early in the second half when their forward finished a fine move up the left wing by shooting low past keeper Britton.
Then with 10 minutes remaining Arklow were awarded a penalty. Chris Burgess was bundled over in the box as he tried to turn his marker and Kieran Harte stepped up and sent the keeper the wrong way to narrow the away side's lead to one goal.
