Glenview FC crash out
THE LINE up for the Charlie Bishop Cup semi-finals can be confirmed and it contains current champions St. Peter's Bhoys A, their fellow Premier Division side Newtown United A as well as Division 1 sides St. Patrick's A and Arklow Town B, who pulled off the surprise of the weekend by beating Premier Division contenders Glenview FC A.
The Saints faced a tricky tie away to plucky BBK United and the Bray side negotiated their way to a 3-1 win, with top scorer Shane Byrne adding another single to his season tally, while James and Justin Kelly also registered efforts for the top flight side. Willie Synnott was the hosts' goalscorer.
Newtown United advanced to the last four after winning a hectic match against Wolfe Tone Celtic at the Bray venue by five goals to four after extra time.
The two sides were tied on three goals apiece at the end of 90 minutes but the Magpies pulled away in extra time, netting twice to end Celtic's Charlie Bishop Cup dreams.
Ross Odlum led by example for United by netting a hat-trick. Cathal McNicholas and Neil Martin also chipped in with efforts for the visitors.
But Peter's and Newtown shall be the only top flight sides in the hat for the semi final draw, as Glenview FC, the only other surviving Premier side, were dumped out of the cup at the weekend by Arklow Town B at the Bridgewater Centre Park.
Paul Byrne, Mick Byrne and Matthew Hudson were all on target for the hosts in their 3-2 win. Robbie Healy and Leon Gallagher were the Glenview marksmen.
And Arklow Town will be joined in the penultimate round by reigning Thomas Scott Cup champions St. Patrick's.
The Saints beat Avoca side Fairwood Celtic by five goals to three, despite Celtic firing three goals past the Saints in the first half courtesy of Stephen Nolan (2) and Paul O'Keefe.
