A DEBUT hat-trick from Polish striker Lukasz Niewiadomski proved the perfect tonic for Celtic Stars as they got their season off to a winning start at Rathnew AFC's expense.

The frontman struck three times to give his side a threegoal lead at the half-time break at Shamrock Park .

Rathnew weren't about to take defeat lying down though and clawed two goals back to but the Stars were able to hold on and took all three points.

Bizzarely, Niewiadomski wasn't the top scorer in Division 2 on Sunday. That honour belongs to Seaview Wanderers' David 'Sparky' Hughes, who netted all four of his side's goal in their 4-1 win over Eastcoast Albion at the Ballywaltrim Recreational Centre.

Mikey Manka popped up with the Eagle's consolation strike.

Sunday proved to be a good day for Bray side's with both Fassaroe YC A and Ballywaltrim FC picking up victories. Keith Byrne's strike earned Fassaroe YC all three points as they edged past newbies Carnew FC by a goal to nil, while Ballywaltrim beat Newtown United 2-1 in their own back yard.

The last remaining fixrture in Division 2 saw the only stalemate of the weekend as Roundwood and Enniskerry YC played out a 2-2 draw at the Vartry Grounds.

A Glen Hughes strike and an own goal made up the hosts' goal tally.
