A POWERFUL free kick from versatile right back Ryan Doyle late in the game sealed victory for the home team in a highly entertaining cup tie as Arklow Town B welcomed a talented Avonmore A to the Community College on Saturday last.

Avonmore took a deserved lead in just the fourth minute, their first corner kick causing havoc in the Arklow defence, a superbly whipped in cross being forced home from close range.

Conor Byrne, always lively, created the equaliser from nothing, somehow managing to turn a lost cause into a goal when applying a little pressure to the away keeper and central defenders.

In the second half, substitute Ben Kavanagh edged Town ahead with a sublime finish, under pressure from a defender he spotted the keeper advancing and with a weighted touch he lobbed the keeper to perfection.

One of Arklow's more creative players on the day, Luke Delaney, earned a precious third goal for the home team with a fine effort from close range. A tireless worker on the day, he burst into the Rathdrum side's area to drive home past the keeper. Town's victory was sealed late in the day with Doyle's powerful free kick from the left edge of the area, firing home through a massed defence high into the top right corner of the Avonmore net.
